Karina Dracott
Living in Lax Kxeen (Prince Rupert), one of the northernmost coastal communities of British Columbia, allows me to explore and document vast and surreal landscapes. I am passionate about marine conservation and my work in this field allows me to capture moments with some amazing critters found in this part of the world. I am grateful to live, work, and learn here in the heart of coast Ts’mysen lands and waters.
I see great value in fostering diverse, engaged, and informed communities, and enjoy working with people to help conserve and sustain our coastal resources. Currently, my research focuses on marine mammal species at risk, including humpback whales and harbour porpoise. I am also a founding member of the North Coast Ecology Centre Society and volunteer with the local Marine Search and Rescue Unit 64.
